Over the last several months, I’ve been interviewing non-stop. Recently, I made it to the final round of interviews with Dropbox. The process was typical of most tech companies, except for one unique feature.

What made it stand out?

As a thank you for participating in the multi-round interview process, Dropbox invites candidates to make a $25 donation (on them) to a Dropbox Foundation partner!

Dropbox Foundation offers a handful of diverse non-profit partners focused on promoting and protecting human rights. The candidate can select where the donation goes. Best of all, every donation is unrestricted - meaning the non-profit can choose how the funds are spent, putting the money towards the areas of greatest need!

As those in the non-profit space know, an unrestricted donation is one of the most valuable types of contributions an organization can receive. The fact that all Dropbox Foundation partner donations are unrestricted means the impact of these donations is even more far-reaching!

Other businesses should look to Dropbox as a model for successful social impact throughout the employee lifecycle. How often do you see a company offer this type of benefit during the candidate experience? I love seeing more and more for-profit businesses practicing what they preach and implementing real, tangible actions that have impact. So, bravo, Dropbox!

My goal is to find a company like Dropbox that infuses impact into all areas of the business. While I didn’t get the role, I loved what I saw throughout the interview process and had a great experience overall! I will be on the lookout for future opportunities there.

What does your company do to give back and make an impact? Or what unique practices have you seen at other companies? Let me know in the comments!
